The Buffalo Bills remained undefeated Sunday, overcoming a rough start to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 at Highmark Stadium.
Buffalo turned the ball over five times but still found a way to rally from a 10-0 deficit. The win moves the Bills to 3-0 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 0-3.
Chargers Jump Out Early
Los Angeles took advantage of Buffalo’s mistakes early.
James Cook fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, giving the Chargers excellent field position. Justin Herbert’s offense turned the opportunity into a touchdown, and Los Angeles added a field goal to take a 10-0 lead.
The Chargers defense then picked off Josh Allen twice in the first half, putting Buffalo in a difficult position.
Despite the turnovers, the Bills managed to fight their way back.
Allen Leads the Comeback
Allen scored on a one yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter to tie the game at 10 heading into halftime.
The Bills quarterback later found the end zone again in the fourth quarter, powering through for another one-yard touchdown to give Buffalo its first lead of the afternoon at 17-13.
Allen finished with 204 passing yards and two interceptions while adding 22 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Cook Helps Put It Away
James Cook bounced back after his early fumble and delivered a huge performance.
Cook rushed for 154 yards on 24 carries and added a three-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. His score pushed Buffalo’s lead to 24-13 and put the game out of reach.
The Chargers added a late field goal, but Buffalo’s defense prevented any further comeback attempt.
Greg Rousseau also came up with a huge sack late in the fourth quarter. His sixth sack of the season broke Bruce Smith’s franchise record for most sacks by a Bill through the first three games of a season.
Bills Stay Perfect
Buffalo’s offense was far from perfect, but the Bills showed they could overcome major mistakes and still find a way to win.
The victory keeps Buffalo undefeated at 3-0 and gives the Bills another win against a strong AFC opponent.
The Chargers, meanwhile, fall to 0-3 after another difficult finish.
Buffalo will now prepare to host the New England Patriots in Week 4.
