The Baltimore Ravens are making a major move to address their quarterback situation, reportedly finalizing a trade to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals.
The move comes at a difficult time for Baltimore, which has suddenly found itself dealing with major injuries at the most important position on the field. With Lamar Jackson sidelined by a thumb injury and backup Tyler Huntley expected to miss the remainder of the season, the Ravens needed to find an experienced quarterback who could help keep their season alive.
Brissett Gets Another Opportunity
Brissett, 33, started the first eight games of the season for Arizona, throwing for 1,719 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
However, his time with the Cardinals took a turn after he was benched during Sunday’s comeback victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Gardner Minshew took over and helped Arizona secure the win, while rookie Carson Beck moved ahead of Brissett on the depth chart.
That opened the door for Baltimore to make its move.
Brissett brings 11 seasons of NFL experience and has started games for several different franchises. His experience and ability to manage an offense could become extremely valuable for a Ravens team trying to remain competitive.
Ravens Hope to Stay in the Playoff Race
Baltimore currently sits at 4-4 and cannot afford to let its season completely fall apart.
The Ravens will still start rookie Joe Fagnano against Jacksonville on Thursday night because the trade is not expected to be completed until the weekend. Brissett could make his Baltimore debut against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10.
The veteran quarterback will also reunite with quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfolk, who previously worked with him in Arizona and Cleveland.
A Necessary Move for Baltimore
Losing Jackson is a massive setback, but acquiring Brissett gives Baltimore a much-needed experienced option.
The Ravens are hoping he can stabilize the offense, protect the football and give the team a chance to compete while Jackson recovers.
It is not an easy situation, but Brissett’s arrival could be exactly what Baltimore needs to keep its playoff hopes alive.
