Chicago Improves to 4-2 With 31-23 Victory in Atlanta

The Chicago Bears bounced back in a big way Sunday, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 31-23 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Behind an impressive performance from quarterback Caleb Williams in his return from a hamstring injury, Chicago built a commanding lead before holding off a late Atlanta rally.

The victory moves the Bears to 4-2 on the season, giving them an important win after last week’s disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers. Atlanta falls to 2-4 after dropping its second consecutive game.

Caleb Williams Delivers in His Return

Williams looked comfortable despite missing the previous three games with a hamstring injury. The young quarterback completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown, spreading the ball around to eight different receivers.

His best moment came early in the game when he connected with tight end Colston Loveland on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give Chicago a 7-0 lead. Williams consistently moved the offense downfield and helped the Bears control the tempo throughout the afternoon.

Running back D’Andre Swift also played a major role in the victory. Swift scored two rushing touchdowns, including a four yard score early in the first quarter and a two-yard touchdown just before halftime.

Chicago continued to extend its advantage in the second half. Roschon Johnson added a four-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, pushing the Bears’ lead to 28-7. After Atlanta’s Zachariah Branch lost another fumble on a kickoff return, kicker Cairo Santos connected on a 50 yard field goal to make it 31-7.

Falcons Make a Late Push

Atlanta struggled to keep pace early, but quarterback Michael Penix Jr. helped bring the Falcons back into the contest.

Penix completed 19 of 33 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Jahan Dotson for a first-half touchdown before finding tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. twice in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons also converted two-point attempts following their late touchdowns, cutting Chicago’s lead to 31-23 and putting pressure on the Bears in the closing minutes.

However, Chicago’s defense delivered when it mattered most. Defensive back Kyler Gordon forced a fumble from Penix, and linebacker Devin Bush recovered the ball to end Atlanta’s comeback hopes.

Bears Look to Build Momentum

The Bears showed what their offense can accomplish with Williams back under center. His accuracy, Swift’s rushing production and timely defensive plays helped Chicago secure a road victory.

Chicago will now turn its attention to a Thursday night matchup against the New England Patriots. Atlanta, meanwhile, must regroup quickly after letting a potential comeback slip away.

The Bears leave Atlanta with a valuable win and renewed confidence as they continue their push through the 2026 season.
