Tyler Shough Leads New Orleans to Much Needed Win in New York

The New Orleans Saints finally got back into the win column Sunday, defeating the New York Giants 34-27 at MetLife Stadium. New Orleans built a commanding 24 point lead before surviving a furious fourth quarter comeback to snap its three game losing streak.

The victory improves the Saints to 2-4 on the season, while the Giants fall to 3-2-1 after letting a promising performance slip away.

Tyler Shough Leads Saints Offense

Quarterback Tyler Shough delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, throwing three touchdown passes and adding a rushing touchdown. His performance helped New Orleans take control after falling behind early.

The Giants jumped out to a 10-0 lead behind quarterback Jameis Winston, who connected with Tyrone Tracy Jr. for a 17 yard touchdown pass. New Orleans answered with a 58-yard field goal from Daniel Carlson before capitalizing on a Giants special teams mistake.

After Charlie Jones fumbled a kickoff return, the Saints recovered at the New York 28-yard line. Shough eventually found Bryce Lance for a two yard touchdown, tying the game at 10-10 before halftime.

New Orleans took control in the third quarter. Shough connected with Alvin Kamara on a short pass that turned into a 31 yard touchdown. He later scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak, and Carlson added a 51 yard field goal to extend the lead.

After Julian Blackmon intercepted Winston, Shough found Chris Olave for an 18-yard touchdown. The score pushed New Orleans ahead 34-10 and appeared to put the game out of reach.

Giants Rally Behind J.J. McCarthy

New York refused to quit. After Winston threw two interceptions, the Giants turned to J.J. McCarthy, who provided an immediate spark.

McCarthy helped produce 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. He connected with Isaiah Likely for a touchdown and helped set up another score by Tracy, cutting the deficit to 34-27 with just over two minutes remaining.

McCarthy finished with 243 passing yards and a touchdown, giving the Giants a chance to complete an improbable comeback.

New York’s final drive reached the Saints’ 14 yard line, but the Giants turned the ball over on downs with five seconds remaining.

Saints Finally Get Back on Track

New Orleans did enough to escape with a victory, thanks to Shough’s four total touchdowns and a defense that recorded three interceptions.

The Saints will look to build on the win and gain consistency moving forward. The Giants, meanwhile, must address their turnovers and defensive struggles after allowing New Orleans to erase their early advantage.
