Cleveland Takes Down Baltimore 13-10 to Claim AFC North Lead
The Cleveland Browns delivered a dramatic divisional victory Sunday, rallying from a 10-point deficit to defeat the Baltimore Ravens 13-10 on a game winning field goal as time expired. Andre Szmyt connected from 37 yards to send Cleveland fans home celebrating and move the Browns into first place in the AFC North.
The win improves Cleveland to 4-2, matching Baltimore’s 4-2 record. After struggling offensively for much of the afternoon, the Browns relied on their defense and a clutch final drive to secure one of their biggest victories of the season.
Ravens Strike First, Browns Struggle Early
Baltimore controlled the opening quarter behind quarterback Tyler Huntley, who started in place of the injured Lamar Jackson. Huntley led an 11 play opening drive that ended with a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Josh Cuevas.
The Ravens added a 34 yard field goal from Tyler Loop to take a 10-0 lead. Meanwhile, Cleveland’s offense struggled to find a rhythm. Quarterback Deshaun Watson faced consistent pressure, and the Browns managed only 46 net yards in the first half.
Cleveland finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Szmyt connected on a 48 yard field goal, cutting Baltimore’s advantage to 10-3.
Browns Defense Changes the Game
Cleveland’s defense stepped up as the game progressed, preventing Baltimore from adding to its lead. A missed 49 yard field goal by Loop kept the Browns within one score, giving the offense an opportunity to mount a comeback.
The turning point came in the fourth quarter when linebacker Carson Schwesinger forced a fumble by running back Derrick Henry. Cornerback Tyson Campbell recovered the ball at Baltimore’s 35-yard line, setting up a crucial scoring opportunity.
Running back Audric Estime, who recently joined Cleveland after spending time on Minnesota’s practice squad, finished the drive with a two-yard touchdown run. The score tied the game at 10-10 with just over eight minutes remaining.
Szmyt Delivers the Winning Kick
With the game tied late, Watson led Cleveland down the field. His biggest play was a 33-yard completion to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, moving the Browns into field goal range.
After several rushing attempts, Szmyt stepped up for the decisive kick. His 37 yard field goal sailed through as time expired, completing Cleveland’s comeback and giving the Browns a 13-10 victory.
Watson finished with 164 passing yards, while Huntley threw for 165 yards and a touchdown.
The Browns now have momentum heading into their next matchup against Tennessee. Cleveland’s ability to stay composed, force a critical turnover and deliver in the closing seconds could prove important as the team looks to maintain its position atop the AFC North.
