Vanderbilt Opens SEC Play
Vanderbilt enters Saturday’s matchup with Auburn at 3-0 and plenty of confidence. The Commodores are beginning SEC play on the road after a dramatic 35-31 comeback victory over NC State last week.
Vanderbilt trailed by 17 points before rallying for the victory on the final play, when Miles Capers forced a fumble and Cayden Daniels recovered it in the end zone. The comeback was Vanderbilt’s largest since overcoming a 17-point deficit against Ole Miss in 2012.
Now, the Commodores face a completely different challenge at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Jared Curtis Era Begins
One of the biggest storylines surrounding Vanderbilt is freshman quarterback Jared Curtis.
Curtis took over the starting job heading into the NC State game, officially beginning what Vanderbilt hopes will be a promising era at quarterback. His first SEC road test will come against an Auburn defense capable of making things difficult.
Vanderbilt will need Curtis to stay composed while dealing with the pressure and atmosphere of Jordan-Hare.
Vanderbilt’s Defense Could Be Key
The Commodores have already shown an ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks.
Vanderbilt enters the game with 12 sacks through three games, ranking fourth nationally and third in the SEC. Nick Rinaldi has recorded 3.5 sacks, while Miles Capers has five tackles for loss.
That pass rush could become especially important against an Auburn offense looking to establish itself once SEC play begins.
Auburn Looks to Bounce Back
Auburn enters the matchup 2-1 after opening SEC play with a loss to Florida. The Tigers will now return home looking to avoid dropping another conference game.
The Commodores have had recent success against Auburn, winning the last two meetings. Vanderbilt defeated Auburn 45-38 in overtime last season and also won 17-7 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2024. Overall, Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 23-22-1.
That history adds another layer to what should be a physical SEC matchup.

The game is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium and will be televised on the SEC Network.
For Vanderbilt, this is an opportunity to show that its undefeated start is more than just a strong September run. A road SEC victory over Auburn would give the Commodores an early conference win and plenty of momentum heading into the heart of their schedule.
