The UFC heads to Paris this weekend for one of the most intriguing Fight Night cards of the year, with a major lightweight showdown headlining the event.
UFC Fight Night: Hooker vs. Parnasse takes place Saturday, September 5, at Accor Arena in Paris. The main card begins at 3 p.m. ET on Paramount+.
At the center of the card is a fascinating clash between veteran Dan Hooker and French superstar Salahdine Parnasse.
HOOKER VS. PARNASSE
The main event could be a defining moment for both fighters.
Hooker is a longtime UFC lightweight contender who has faced some of the best fighters in the division. The New Zealander enters this fight looking to bounce back from consecutive losses and prove that he still belongs among the division’s elite.
Standing across from him is one of France’s biggest MMA stars.
Parnasse enters the UFC with a 23-2 record after becoming a two-division champion in KSW. He also enters the matchup riding a five-fight winning streak. Now, he’ll make his UFC debut in front of a home crowd against a proven veteran.
The biggest question is whether Parnasse’s speed, versatility and well-rounded skill set can overwhelm Hooker, or whether Hooker’s experience and striking can spoil the highly anticipated debut.
ZIAM VS. SOLA
The co-main event is an all-French lightweight matchup between Farès Ziam and Axel Sola.
Ziam is looking to rebound after suffering his first loss in four years, while Sola enters the fight as one of the younger rising talents on the Paris card.
This could be one of the night’s most technical fights, with both fighters looking to establish themselves in a crowded lightweight division.
MICHAEL PAGE VS. NURSULTON RUZIBOEV
One of the most unpredictable fights on the card features Michael “Venom” Page against Nursulton Ruziboev.
Page brings his unorthodox striking and tremendous athleticism into the matchup, while Ruziboev has proven to be a dangerous finisher. Ruziboev has recorded four finishes in his first five UFC victories.
If Page can control the distance, his movement and creativity could make this a nightmare for Ruziboev. But if Ruziboev gets the fight into his preferred range, things could change quickly.
DONCHENKO VS. SORIANO
Daniil Donchenko and Punahele Soriano should provide plenty of power.
Both fighters have finishing ability, making this one of the bouts most likely to produce fireworks. The matchup also gives both men an opportunity to build momentum with a statement performance.
CAMPBELL VS. PEEK
The main card opens with Kurtis Campbell vs. Trevor Peek, a matchup that could produce an early finish.
Peek is known for his aggressive, all-action style and has eight career knockout victories. Campbell is a young prospect with plenty of finishing ability of his own.
With two aggressive fighters sharing the Octagon, fans shouldn’t expect a slow start.
KEITA VS. NAIMOV
Rounding out the main card is Losene Keita vs. Muhammad Naimov.
Keita enters the UFC spotlight against an experienced opponent in Naimov, giving both fighters a chance to make a statement on a major European card.
With the Paris crowd expected to be electric throughout the night, this fight could be an excellent way to close out the non-headliner portion of the card.
FINAL THOUGHTS
UFC Paris has plenty of storylines, but everything ultimately leads back to the main event.
Hooker has the experience. Parnasse has the momentum, home-field advantage and enormous expectations surrounding his UFC debut.
If Parnasse delivers against a veteran of Hooker’s caliber, the UFC’s lightweight division could have a new contender on its hands.
The Paris crowd is ready. Now it’s time to see if Salahdine Parnasse is ready for the UFC.
