After scoring the biggest win of his MMA career at UFC Freedom 250, Josh Hokit became the center of controversy for reasons that had nothing to do with fighting.
Moments after defeating Derrick Lewis on the historic White House card, Hokit grabbed the microphone during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan and declared, “Michelle Obama is a man, am I right America?” The comment immediately sparked a mixed reaction from the crowd and ignited backlash across social media.
The remark overshadowed what should have been a career-defining night. Hokit not only remained undefeated but also presented President Donald Trump with a chain after the victory in front of thousands of fans attending the first professional sporting event ever held on the White House lawn.
Criticism arrived quickly. UFC president Dana White publicly condemned the statement, saying he was against “nasty and false things” being said about people’s families. Former NFL star Robert Griffin III called the comments disgraceful and criticized Hokit for using his moment in the spotlight to attack a woman.
The incident was not entirely out of character. Reports noted Hokit had previously made the same claim about Michelle Obama after a fight in 2025 and made similar comments about WNBA star Brittney Griner earlier this year.
Instead of being remembered solely for his dominant win over Derrick Lewis at one of the most unique sporting events in American history, Hokit now finds himself at the center of a national controversy that has become one of the defining talking points from UFC Freedom 250.
