The Chicago Bears are dealing with a major injury concern involving quarterback Caleb Williams after he suffered a right hamstring injury during Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams was injured in the fourth quarter while scrambling toward the end zone. He immediately grabbed at his right leg and was eventually helped off the field before being taken to the locker room on a cart.

The initial scene created significant concern, but the Bears received some encouraging news afterward. Tests indicated that Williams avoided a major hamstring injury, and head coach Ben Johnson described the quarterback as week-to-week. Johnson also said Monday that he does not expect Williams to practice this week, although the team has not officially ruled him out for next Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Williams had started the season strongly, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns in Chicago’s Week 1 win over Carolina. Through two games, he has completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 407 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while also rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

His injury came during a difficult afternoon against Minnesota. Williams finished 15-of-26 passing for 138 yards and an interception while adding 42 rushing yards before leaving the game.

The biggest question now is whether Williams can recover quickly enough to play against Philadelphia. While Chicago has not ruled him out, current reporting indicates that he is unlikely to practice this week, making his status something to monitor closely as the Bears prepare for Week 3.

For now, Chicago is taking a cautious approach with its franchise quarterback. The good news is that the injury does not appear to be as serious as it initially looked, but Williams’ return timeline remains uncertain.
