Angel Reese picked the worst possible time to have one of her worst performances of the season. Now, with the WNBA Finals tied 2-2, the Atlanta Dream star has a massive opportunity to redeem herself tonight against the Golden State Valkyries.
But after what we witnessed in Game 4, should Atlanta fans really be confident?
Reese was absolutely dreadful in Saturday’s 67-62 loss, finishing with just 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 turnovers while shooting an embarrassing 2-for-12 from the field. For someone who has received so much attention throughout these playoffs, that performance was simply unacceptable.
And the worst part? Most of her struggles came around the basket. Missed layups, rushed shots, and questionable decisions made Reese look completely lost offensively.
Golden State clearly figured something out defensively, and Kiah Stokes made life miserable for Reese in the paint.
What makes this even more frustrating for Atlanta is that Reese had been playing some of her best basketball in Games 2 and 3, averaging 25.5 points and 14 rebounds. But when the Dream had an opportunity to take a commanding 3-1 series lead, their biggest star disappeared.
Now the series shifts back to Golden State for Game 5 tonight, and the pressure couldn’t be higher.
Reese has built a reputation around her confidence, personality, and ability to dominate the glass. However, none of that matters if she cannot consistently finish easy opportunities around the rim.
Tonight is about more than winning a basketball game. It’s about proving Game 4 wasn’t a glimpse of the real Angel Reese.
