Angel Reese is making history on the biggest stage in women’s basketball, and it’s time to give her the respect she deserves.

The Atlanta Dream star has gone from one of the most criticized players in the WNBA to the centerpiece of a championship contender. And with the Finals underway, Reese is putting together the kind of performance that deserves to be remembered for years to come.

We’re watching Angel Reese build a legitimate case for one of the greatest individual performances in WNBA Finals history.

And the numbers back it up.

Angel Reese Is Doing Something We Rarely See

Through the first three games of the 2026 WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries, Reese averaged 21.7 points and 13.7 rebounds per game, helping Atlanta take a 2-1 series lead.

Her Game 2 performance was the moment that truly put the basketball world on notice.

Reese exploded for 30 points and 16 rebounds, becoming just the third player in WNBA Finals history to record at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a single game. She also became the youngest player ever to accomplish the feat.

Let that sink in for a second.

The same player who has faced years of criticism over her offensive game just delivered one of the most dominant performances the WNBA Finals has ever seen.

And she wasn’t finished there.

In Game 3, Reese followed up her historic night with another 20-point, 10-rebound performance, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds. That made her just the second player in Finals history to record at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in consecutive games, joining A’ja Wilson.

That’s not just a hot stretch. That’s history.

The Critics Have to Give Her Credit Now

Reese has never been a player who flies under the radar. Between her personality, confidence and constant presence in basketball conversations, she has attracted an enormous amount of attention since entering the professional ranks.

But the conversation surrounding her game has often focused on what she supposedly cannot do.

Her shooting has been questioned. Her offensive abilities have been debated. Her every move has been picked apart.

Now, she’s delivering on the biggest stage imaginable.

Reese has shown a much more complete offensive game during her first postseason with Atlanta, while continuing to dominate the glass and make her presence felt defensively. Her improvement has been a major part of the Dream’s championship push.

And the most impressive part might be how she has responded to the pressure.

The Finals are a different animal. Defenses are more physical, every possession matters, and there is nowhere to hide when the entire basketball world is watching.

Reese has embraced that challenge.

Could Angel Reese Actually Win Finals MVP?

Here’s where things get really interesting.

Heading into Game 5, Reese was averaging 18.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks through the first four games of the series.

She was leading all players in both scoring and rebounding while ranking among the series leaders in steals and blocks. Her all-around production had made her a serious Finals MVP candidate.

Those are the numbers of a player impacting nearly every part of the game.

And she is doing it while helping Atlanta chase the first championship in franchise history.

Of course, the series has not been perfect. Reese struggled offensively in Game 4, and Golden State’s defense made life difficult for Atlanta in Game 5, limiting her to seven points and 15 rebounds. The Valkyries won that game 64-55 to move within one victory of the title.

But even with those setbacks, the larger picture remains impressive. Reese has already delivered two historically significant performances in her first WNBA Finals appearance.

One difficult game doesn’t erase that.

Angel Reese Is Building a Legacy in Real Time

The debate surrounding Reese will probably never completely disappear. That’s what happens when you’re one of the most recognizable names in basketball.

But her Finals performance has given fans something much bigger to discuss than social media arguments.

We’re talking about records, historic statistical achievements and a player who has helped carry her team into a championship battle.

At just 24 years old, Reese is already adding another major chapter to a career that includes an NCAA championship at LSU and a WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award.

Now, she has a chance to add a WNBA championship to that résumé.

Whether Atlanta completes the comeback or not, Reese has already shown that she can deliver extraordinary performances when the stakes are highest.

Angel Reese isn’t just making headlines anymore. She’s making WNBA history.

And if she can deliver another monster performance and help the Dream finish the job, we could be looking back at this Finals run as one of the defining moments of her career.
