Jahmyr Gibbs isn’t just one of the best running backs in the NFL. He might be one of the most naturally talented players the position has ever seen.
At just 24 years old, the Detroit Lions superstar is already putting together a résumé that deserves serious attention. His combination of speed, acceleration, vision, receiving ability, and explosiveness makes him an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses.
And the numbers back it up.
Through his first 55 NFL games, Gibbs has recorded:
- 809 rushing attempts
- 4,200 rushing yards
- 5.2 yards per carry
- 46 rushing touchdowns
- 210 rushing first downs
- 35 runs of 20+ yards
- 9 runs of 40+ yards
- 5 career fumbles
But that’s only half the story. Gibbs is just as dangerous catching the football out of the backfield.
He’s added another 141 receptions for 1,156 receiving yards and 9 receiving touchdowns across his career. That gives him 5,356 yards from scrimmage and 55 total touchdowns in just 55 games.
He’s also been incredibly productive in 2026. Through six games, Gibbs has already accumulated 620 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 32 receptions, 270 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns.
That’s 890 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns before even reaching the halfway point of the season.
His 2024 campaign was another reminder of just how special he can be. Gibbs rushed for 1,412 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging an incredible 5.6 yards per carry. He followed that up with 1,223 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025.
What makes Gibbs so difficult to defend is that he doesn’t need a perfect situation to make something happen. Give him a small opening, and he can turn it into a huge gain. Get him into space, and linebackers and defensive backs have very little room for error.
He’s explosive enough to take a handoff 70 yards, but talented enough as a receiver to become a major part of the passing game. There simply aren’t many players who can threaten defenses in so many different ways.
Detroit has something special, and Gibbs is only getting started.
