Seminoles Blow Early Lead in Costly ACC Loss
The Louisville Cardinals delivered a dominant comeback Friday night, defeating Florida State 44-20 after overcoming an early 14 point deficit at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium. What started as a promising performance for the Seminoles quickly turned into another frustrating road loss as Louisville took control and never looked back.
Florida State entered the matchup hoping to build on its impressive 38-7 victory over Virginia. Instead, the Seminoles suffered their 11th consecutive road defeat, raising more questions about the team’s ability to perform away from Tallahassee.
Florida State Starts Fast
The Seminoles looked sharp during the opening quarter, jumping out to a 14-0 lead behind quarterback Ashton Daniels and the offense.
Daniels opened the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run before connecting with Micahi Danzy for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Florida State appeared to have the momentum, and its offense moved the ball effectively during the opening possessions.
However, the game changed dramatically when the Seminoles reached the Louisville one-yard line with an opportunity to extend their lead to 21-0. Florida State failed to convert on fourth down, giving the Cardinals an opening to respond.
Louisville running back Isaac Brown immediately delivered a massive play, breaking free for a 97 yard touchdown run that completely changed the atmosphere inside the stadium.
The Cardinals continued building momentum, tying the game at 14 before halftime.
Louisville Takes Complete Control
Louisville carried its momentum into the second half, opening the third quarter with a 71-yard kickoff return that put the Cardinals in excellent field position.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz helped finish the drive with a rushing touchdown, giving Louisville its first lead of the night. He added another rushing score later in the quarter as the Cardinals continued to exploit Florida State’s defensive weaknesses.
Louisville’s ground game proved nearly unstoppable. The Cardinals finished with 397 rushing yards and 537 total yards, averaging an impressive 9.2 yards per carry.
Florida State struggled to find answers, and the offense went through a stretch of five consecutive punts as Louisville extended its advantage.
The Seminoles finally scored again in the fourth quarter, but their attempted two-point conversion failed. Any hope of a comeback quickly disappeared when Brown broke loose for another long touchdown run, this time covering 68 yards.
Florida State Faces More Questions
Florida State finished with 362 total yards but could not match Louisville’s explosive offense. The Seminoles also struggled to contain the Cardinals’ rushing attack, which produced three touchdown runs of at least 40 yards.
For Louisville, the victory provided a significant boost in ACC play. For Florida State, the defeat highlighted the defensive issues and inconsistency that continue to threaten its season.
The Seminoles must regroup quickly, with another difficult road matchup against Miami coming next.
After such a promising start Friday night, Florida State will be left wondering how a potential 21-0 advantage turned into a 24 point defeat.
