Hawkeyes Deliver Statement Win in Seattle
The Iowa Hawkeyes delivered an impressive performance Friday night, defeating Washington 41-24 at Husky Stadium. No. 20 Iowa dominated the first half, built a 24 point halftime lead and held off a second-half push from the Huskies to secure a major road victory.
The win improved Iowa to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play, giving the Hawkeyes momentum heading into the second half of their season. Washington fell to 3-3 after struggling to contain Iowa’s balanced offense and powerful rushing attack.
Moulton Leads Iowa’s Offensive Explosion
Running back Kamari Moulton was the star of the night, rushing for a career-high 208 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. His biggest play came late in the first quarter, when he broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run to extend Iowa’s lead to 13-0.
Quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski also delivered a standout performance in his first career start. Filling in for the injured Hank Brown, Hecklinski completed 14 of 19 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns.
He connected with tight end DJ Vonnahme twice in the second quarter, finding him for touchdown passes of 20 and 24 yards. Those scores helped Iowa build a commanding 27-3 halftime advantage.
Kicker Caden Buhr also contributed with field goals from 51 and 27 yards as the Hawkeyes controlled the opening half.
Washington Attempts a Comeback
The Huskies showed signs of life after halftime, scoring on their opening possession of the third quarter. Backup quarterback Elijah Brown connected with Chris Lawson for a 10-yard touchdown, cutting Iowa’s lead to 27-10.
Brown entered the game after starting quarterback Demond Williams Jr. suffered a left shoulder injury late in the first half. Williams did not return.
Washington continued fighting, with Brown throwing three touchdown passes and finishing with 251 passing yards. However, Iowa answered with another touchdown pass from Hecklinski to Reece Vander Zee before Moulton added a three-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter.
The Hawkeyes’ defense also played a major role, recording six sacks and limiting Washington to minus-three rushing yards.
Iowa Builds Momentum
Iowa finished with 465 total yards and 263 rushing yards, showcasing the offensive balance that helped secure the victory.
The Hawkeyes will now look ahead to their October 24 matchup against Minnesota after a bye week. With Hecklinski stepping up and Moulton delivering a career performance, Iowa has plenty of positives to build on.
Friday night’s victory was an important statement for the Hawkeyes as they continue their push through the Big Ten schedule.
