Chanticleers Snap Losing Streak With Road Victory
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers picked up a much needed victory Saturday night, defeating Marshall 27-21 in Huntington, West Virginia. Coastal Carolina came away with a six-point win in a competitive Sun Belt matchup, giving head coach Ryan Beard and the Chanticleers a positive result after a difficult stretch to open conference play.
The victory was especially important for Coastal Carolina after consecutive losses to Delaware, Liberty and Georgia Southern. The Chanticleers entered the matchup looking to get back on track, and they delivered by finding a way to finish ahead of Marshall on the road.
Deuce Bailey Leads Coastal Carolina
Quarterback Deuce Bailey has been one of Coastal Carolina’s key offensive players throughout the season, entering the game with 1,267 passing yards and 12 touchdown passes. His ability to create plays through the air has been an important part of the Chanticleers’ offensive approach.
Coastal Carolina needed production on offense to keep pace with a Marshall team playing at home. The Chanticleers managed to put 27 points on the scoreboard, enough to secure the victory and provide a boost for an offense that had faced challenges during its recent losing streak.
Running back Dominic Lee-Knicely also entered the matchup as an important part of the rushing attack. Establishing balance between the passing and running games will remain important for Coastal Carolina as it moves deeper into its Sun Belt schedule.
Marshall Comes Up Short
Marshall entered the game with a 3-2 record and looked to protect its home field against the Chanticleers. Quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson had been leading the Thundering Herd’s passing offense, giving Marshall a capable option under center.
However, the Thundering Herd finished with 21 points, six fewer than Coastal Carolina. Despite keeping the game within one score, Marshall could not do enough to finish ahead of the visitors.
The narrow margin made the result particularly valuable for Coastal Carolina, which needed to turn its recent performances into a win.
A Confidence Boost for the Chanticleers
The 27-21 victory gives Coastal Carolina momentum heading into its next matchup against Appalachian State. Beard’s team will look to build on the result and become more consistent as the conference schedule continues.
For Marshall, the loss is a missed opportunity to add another win at home. The Thundering Herd will need to regroup before its next game.
Coastal Carolina leaves Huntington with a hard earned victory and renewed confidence. After a challenging run of results, the Chanticleers finally have another win to build on.
