LaNorris Sellers may have just made it impossible for NFL teams to ignore his potential as a top-10 pick.
The South Carolina quarterback delivered a monster performance on Saturday, leading the Gamecocks to a 42-25 road victory over Oklahoma while showing exactly why he has the talent to become a high pick in the NFL Draft.
Sellers threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 96 yards and two scores on the ground. He accounted for five total touchdowns and helped South Carolina earn its third consecutive win.
His biggest plays showed off the kind of arm talent NFL scouts are looking for. Sellers connected on touchdown passes of 84 yards and 79 yards, displaying his ability to stretch the field and turn one play into a game-changing moment.
But what makes Sellers such an exciting prospect is that he isn’t just a pocket passer. His athleticism allows him to create plays with his legs, escape pressure and force defenses to account for him as both a passer and a runner. That dual-threat ability could make him a nightmare for NFL defenses if he continues developing.
Sellers’ physical tools are hard to ignore. He has the arm strength to make difficult throws, the speed to hurt defenses on the ground and the ability to produce explosive plays that can change a game in seconds.
Those are the traits that could push him into the top 10 of the NFL Draft conversation.
Of course, Sellers still has areas to improve. He threw two interceptions against Oklahoma, and NFL teams will want to see him become more consistent with his decision-making. But his ability to bounce back, lead a dominant offensive performance and make plays in multiple ways is exactly why his potential is so exciting.
The NFL is always searching for quarterbacks who can do more than simply operate an offense. Sellers has the physical ability to become that kind of player, and performances like Saturday’s only strengthen his case.
If he continues playing at this level and cleans up the turnovers, don’t be surprised if NFL teams start viewing him as one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the draft.
