Davante Adams Goes Off as Rams Crush Giants
Davante Adams reminded the NFL exactly what he is capable of on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver exploded for eight catches, 195 yards and two touchdowns as the Rams defeated the New York Giants 28-6 at SoFi Stadium. It was Adams’ best game since joining the Rams and one of the most productive performances of his 13-year NFL career.
Adams immediately made his presence felt. Late in the first quarter, Matthew Stafford found him for a 31-yard touchdown, giving Los Angeles an early 7-0 lead. Adams later broke free for a 64-yard reception that set up another Rams touchdown.
His second touchdown came in the third quarter when Stafford connected with Adams on an 11-yard fade into the end zone. The score pushed the Rams’ advantage to 21-3 and put the game firmly in Los Angeles’ control.
The numbers were impressive across the board. Adams averaged 24.4 yards per reception, recorded four catches of at least 20 yards and finished just 11 yards shy of his career high of 206 receiving yards. His 195 yards also rank among the best single-game totals of his career.
Adams was especially important with Puka Nacua sidelined by a hip injury. With the Rams missing one of their biggest offensive weapons, Adams stepped into the spotlight and became Stafford’s primary target throughout the night.
Stafford took full advantage, throwing four touchdown passes and finishing with 327 passing yards. The quarterback and receiver appeared to be completely in sync, repeatedly attacking the Giants’ secondary for big plays.
The performance also moved Adams into the top 25 in NFL history in career receiving yards. He now has 12,854 yards and 119 career receiving touchdowns.
After a disappointing Week 1 loss to San Francisco, the Rams responded with a statement performance. Adams’ breakout night was a major reason why Los Angeles left the field with a convincing 28-6 victory and a 1-1 record.
If Adams continues playing at this level, the Rams’ offense could be a very difficult matchup for defenses all season.
