Jaxson Dart Injury Update: Giants Await MRI Results
The New York Giants are waiting for more answers on quarterback Jaxson Dart after the second-year quarterback suffered a left knee injury during Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart was injured early in the game when Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart hit him as he released a pass. His knee buckled on the play, and Dart immediately grabbed at his left leg. He was able to walk off the field under his own power but was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Initial reports indicated that Dart could have suffered an MCL sprain. His X-rays were negative, but the Giants planned to conduct an MRI Tuesday to determine the full extent of the injury. Head coach John Harbaugh said the injury was “in the neighborhood” of an MCL sprain but stressed that the team needed additional testing.
The latest reports have created more uncertainty. Further testing has raised concerns that Dart’s injury could be more serious than initially believed, with reports indicating that he could miss an extended period. A potential season-ending surgery has also been reported as a possibility, although the Giants have not confirmed that outcome.
Harbaugh said Tuesday that evaluations are still ongoing and that the Giants have not made a final decision regarding Dart’s next steps. That means his exact recovery timeline remains unknown.
Dart’s injury is a significant development for New York after he opened the season with an impressive performance against the Dallas Cowboys. Against Los Angeles, however, he completed just 3 of 5 passes for 20 yards before leaving.
Jameis Winston took over and is expected to handle the quarterback duties while Dart’s status is determined.
The Giants are now waiting for the medical evaluations to provide a clearer picture of Dart’s injury and whether he will be able to return this season.
