Matthew Stafford continues to climb the NFL record books.
During the Los Angeles Rams’ 28-6 victory over the New York Giants on Monday night, Stafford moved into sixth place on the NFL’s all-time career passing touchdown list. His 11-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams in the third quarter gave him his 426th career touchdown pass, moving him past Philip Rivers.
Stafford wasn’t finished there.
The veteran quarterback threw four touchdown passes overall against New York, finishing the night with 427 career touchdown passes. He completed 22 of 31 attempts for 327 yards and one interception while leading the Rams to their first victory of the season.
The milestone was fittingly part of an outstanding night for Stafford and Adams. Two of Stafford’s four touchdown passes went to Adams, who exploded for eight catches, 195 yards and two touchdowns.
Stafford’s first touchdown of the night came on a 10-yard pass to Kyren Williams before he connected with Adams twice. His fourth touchdown went to tight end Terrance Ferguson late in the fourth quarter.
The performance marked the 22nd time in Stafford’s career that he has thrown at least four touchdown passes in a game. It also helped the Rams bounce back from their 27-7 season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Stafford’s latest milestone adds another impressive accomplishment to a career that has already included an Super bowl, multiple Pro Bowl selections and numerous league records.
At 38 years old, Stafford is continuing to add his name to some of the NFL’s most prestigious statistical lists. With 427 career touchdown passes and plenty of football still ahead, his climb through the record books is far from over.
