The Miami Dolphins have traded quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, ending the former Texas star’s time in Miami before the start of his second NFL season.
Jacksonville acquired Ewers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick, giving the Jaguars another young quarterback with starting experience to add behind Trevor Lawrence. The trade was announced Saturday as NFL teams prepared to finalize their 53-man rosters.
Ewers, 23, was selected by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft after an impressive college career at Texas. He appeared in four games for Miami last season, including three starts, completing 55 of 83 passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Dolphins had entered training camp with Ewers competing to be the primary backup behind Malik Willis. However, Ewers struggled during the preseason and was limited after suffering a groin injury in Miami’s opening preseason game against Washington. He completed just one of eight passes for 27 yards and an interception in that appearance.
For Jacksonville, the move provides additional depth behind Lawrence. Ewers brings valuable starting experience despite having only a handful of NFL appearances, and the Jaguars will have an opportunity to continue developing him within their quarterback room.
The trade also represents a significant change for Ewers, who entered the NFL with plenty of attention following his decorated career at Texas. He completed more than 9,000 passing yards and threw 68 touchdowns during his college career while helping the Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff twice.
Now in Jacksonville, Ewers will look to revive his NFL career and prove that he can eventually become more than just a backup quarterback. For the Jaguars, the low-cost move gives them another option at the most important position on the roster.
