The Los Angeles Rams have made one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason, bringing legendary defensive tackle Aaron Donald back for the 2026 season. Donald has officially come out of retirement and will return to the team where he spent his entire Hall of Fame caliber career.
Donald is signing a one year contract worth $20 million, with incentives that could push the total value to $30 million. The deal gives the Rams one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history as they prepare for another Super Bowl push.
The 35-year-old Donald retired following the 2023 season after 10 seasons in the NFL. During his career, he established himself as one of the greatest defensive tackles the league has ever seen, earning three Defensive Player of the Year awards, eight First-Team All-Pro selections and 10 Pro Bowl appearances.
Donald also played a major role in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI championship during the 2021 season. His return gives Los Angeles another elite presence on a defensive line that already received a major boost this offseason with the acquisition of Myles Garrett.
The possibility of Donald and Garrett playing alongside each other could create one of the most intimidating defensive fronts in football. Garrett is already one of the league’s premier pass rushers, while Donald’s ability to generate pressure from the interior could make life extremely difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
Donald will now attempt to return to NFL form after spending more than two years away from the game. While his age and time away from football will be factors, the Rams are betting that the future Hall of Famer still has enough left to make a major impact.
