The New York Giants are adding another proven weapon to their backfield, signing former Pro Bowl running back Najee Harris to a one year deal. The move gives new head coach John Harbaugh another experienced option as the Giants prepare for the 2026 season.
Harris, 28, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, rushing for more than 1,000 yards in each season. He has totaled 4,373 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns during his career.
His 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers was cut short after just three games when he suffered a torn Achilles. Harris is still working his way back into football shape, but the Giants are betting that the veteran can return to the form that made him one of the league’s most productive young backs.
The signing also gives New York an interesting mix in its running back room, with Harris joining Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary. Harris’ physical, downhill running style could fit well with the identity Harbaugh wants to establish.
For Harris, this is an opportunity to prove that he still has plenty left in the tank. After missing most of last season, he enters New York motivated to show that the injury is behind him and that he can once again be a major contributor in the NFL.
