The Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards made a notable move Wednesday as part of a larger NBA trade involving multiple teams. Cleveland sent guard Tre Mann, a 2027 second round pick originally belonging to the Los Angeles Clippers, and cash to Washington in exchange for young forward Cam Whitmore.
For the Wizards, the trade provides an opportunity to add another young guard to their roster. Mann, 25, was selected 18th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021 NBA Draft and spent the 2025-26 season with the Charlotte Hornets. He averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season. Washington also gains a future second round pick and cash while addressing its need for additional guard depth.
The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are betting on Whitmore’s upside. The 22-year-old forward was selected 20th overall by the Houston Rockets in 2023 and was acquired by Washington in 2025. Whitmore appeared in only 21 games last season and averaged 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds before a medical issue involving his right shoulder ended his season.
Whitmore gives Cleveland another athletic young wing with scoring potential. His ability to attack the basket and play multiple forward positions could make him an intriguing addition alongside Cleveland’s established core. The Cavaliers are also gaining Whitmore while continuing to create financial flexibility as part of a larger trade involving Denver and the Los Angeles Clippers.
For both teams, the deal represents a chance to take a gamble on young talent. Mann provides Washington with immediate guard depth, while Cleveland hopes Whitmore can develop into a productive two way wing.
