The NFL is back.
But the league decided to make sure everybody remembers the opening night.
The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will host the New England Patriots on Wednesday night in a rematch of Super Bowl LX.
And there’s a bizarre little wrinkle hiding underneath all of it.
The NFL hasn’t opened its regular season on a Wednesday since 2012.
So instead of easing into the weekend, the league is basically kicking the door down.
Seattle gets the banner.
New England gets another shot.
And the rest of the football world gets to spend Wednesday night finding out whether last season’s Super Bowl was actually the beginning of something bigger.
The Seahawks return with much of the roster that helped them win it all.
The Patriots return with something to prove.
And by the time Thursday morning arrives, somebody is going to have a very different opinion about the 2026 NFL season.
Football is back.
And apparently Wednesday belongs to the NFL now.
