Houston Breaks Through in Nashville
The Houston Texans finally got into the win column Sunday, delivering a dominant 26-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium. Behind a strong performance from quarterback C.J. Stroud and a relentless defensive effort, Houston snapped its winless start and improved to 1-4 on the season.
The Titans, meanwhile, dropped to 0-5 after another frustrating offensive performance. Tennessee struggled to move the football consistently, while Houston controlled the game after taking a 12-3 lead into halftime.
Fairbairn Leads the Scoring Early
Houston’s offense had trouble finding the end zone in the first half, but kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn kept the scoreboard moving. He connected on field goals from 45, 35, 26 and 53 yards, accounting for four of the Texans’ first five scoring plays.
Tennessee briefly held the lead after Joey Slye made a 30 yard field goal in the first quarter. However, Houston answered with three field goals in the second quarter to build a nine point halftime advantage.
The Texans also benefited from a key interception by safety Jaylen Henderson, who picked off Titans quarterback Cam Ward in the second quarter. The turnover stopped a Tennessee drive and helped Houston maintain control.
Stroud Takes Over After Halftime
Houston’s offense found the end zone in the third quarter after putting together an impressive 17-play, 74 yard drive. Stroud finished the possession himself, running for a two-yard touchdown to extend the Texans’ lead to 19-3.
The Texans continued to control possession and limit Tennessee’s opportunities. Houston outgained the Titans 329-187 and held the ball for nearly 35 minutes.
Stroud completed 26 of 34 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score. Woody Marks led Houston on the ground with 62 yards on 16 carries.
In the fourth quarter, Stroud connected with rookie wide receiver Jaylin Noel for a nine-yard touchdown. The score capped another lengthy drive and put the game out of reach.
Texans Defense Delivers
Houston’s defense was just as impressive as its offense. Will Anderson Jr. recorded three sacks, while Danielle Hunter added another, constantly pressuring Ward and disrupting Tennessee’s passing game.
Ward finished with 170 passing yards and an interception, while the Titans managed only three points and 187 total yards.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans’ defense delivered the kind of performance Houston needed to turn its season around. The Texans will look to build on this victory and carry the momentum into next week, while Tennessee faces serious questions after another disappointing defeat.
