Tacko Fall is getting another chance to make his mark in the NBA.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Tuesday that they have signed the 7-foot-6 center, along with Jameer Nelson Jr. and Saint Thomas. Fall is reportedly joining Philadelphia on an Exhibit 10 contract, giving him an opportunity to compete for a roster or two-way spot during training camp.
For Fall, the signing represents a return to the NBA after spending the past several seasons playing overseas. The 30-year-old center last appeared in an NBA game during the 2021-22 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before that, he spent two seasons with the Boston Celtics after going undrafted in 2019.
Fall became a fan favorite during his time in Boston because of his enormous size and shot-blocking ability. At 7-foot-6, he remains one of the tallest players to ever play in the NBA, giving Philadelphia a unique option in the frontcourt.
Although his Exhibit 10 contract does not guarantee him a regular-season roster spot, Fall will have an opportunity to show the Sixers what he can provide during training camp. Exhibit 10 contracts can also be converted into two-way contracts, giving Fall another possible path to staying with the organization.
Fall spent last season with the Ningbo Rockets in China. Across his recent international career, he has continued to produce around the basket, using his size as a rebounder, rim protector and lob target. He also previously played for the New Zealand Breakers in Australia’s National Basketball League.
The opportunity could be particularly interesting for Philadelphia because of the team’s need for additional frontcourt depth. Fall will have to compete with other young centers for opportunities behind Joel Embiid, but his size gives him a skill set that few players can match.
The signing also reunites Fall with Jaylen Brown, who was his teammate in Boston. Brown welcomed the move on social media following the announcement.
Now, Fall has another opportunity to prove that he belongs in the NBA.
After spending four years away from the league, the towering center will enter Sixers training camp with plenty to prove. If he can make an impression, Philadelphia could give one of the NBA’s biggest players another chance to become part of an NBA roster.
