The South Carolina Gamecocks will return to Williams-Brice Stadium Saturday night looking to continue their strong start to the 2026 season.
South Carolina will host Towson at 7 p.m. ET in the Gamecocks’ second game of the season. The matchup will be streamed on SEC+.
South Carolina enters the game 1-0 after completely dominating Kent State 57-0 in the season opener. The Gamecocks controlled the game from the opening kickoff and showed plenty of promise on both sides of the football.
Now, they have a chance to make another statement before SEC play begins.
Gamecocks Look To Keep The Offense Rolling
After scoring 57 points in Week 1, South Carolina will be looking for another strong offensive performance.
The Gamecocks should have a significant talent advantage against Towson, giving the offense an opportunity to build confidence and continue developing its identity.
South Carolina will also want to avoid turnovers and costly mistakes. With Mississippi State coming to Columbia next week for the SEC opener, this game provides one final opportunity to clean up any issues before conference play.
Defense Could Continue Dominating
The Gamecocks’ defense was one of the biggest stories of the Kent State game.
South Carolina held the Golden Flashes scoreless, and another strong performance Saturday would give the defense even more momentum heading into SEC competition.
Towson represents a different challenge, but South Carolina should have the speed and depth necessary to make life difficult for the Tigers.
A Final Tune Up Before SEC Play
Saturday’s game is important because it is the final nonconference matchup before the real test begins.
Mississippi State will visit Williams-Brice Stadium on September 19 for South Carolina’s SEC opener. The Gamecocks have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Bulldogs.
For now, however, the focus is entirely on Towson.
South Carolina should be heavily favored and has too much talent to overlook the Tigers. If the Gamecocks play to their potential, another convincing victory could be on the way.
