No. 9 Ole Miss will return home Saturday night looking to build on one of the most exciting wins of the opening weekend.
The Rebels will host Charlotte at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at 6:45 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Ole Miss enters the matchup 1-0 after defeating No. 24 Louisville 41-38 on a last-second field goal.
Now, the Rebels will look to avoid a letdown against a Charlotte team that presents a very different challenge.
Chambliss Looks to Keep Rolling
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was one of the biggest stars of Ole Miss’ opening-night victory.
Chambliss threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns while adding another touchdown on the ground. His ability to make plays through the air and with his legs gives the Rebels a dangerous element on offense.
After performing against a ranked Louisville team, Chambliss will now have an opportunity to continue building confidence before SEC play begins.
Deuce Alexander Is Already Making Noise
Wide receiver Deuce Alexander also had a massive opening game.
Alexander caught five passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns, including two explosive 62-yard scores. His performance earned him SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Charlotte will have to find a way to limit Alexander and prevent Ole Miss from creating big plays down the field.
Can Ole Miss Avoid A Trap Game?
The biggest concern for Ole Miss may simply be staying focused.
The Rebels just played a thrilling nationally relevant game against Louisville and have LSU coming to Oxford next week. That makes Charlotte a potential trap game.
Ole Miss cannot afford to overlook its opponent with its SEC opener against LSU waiting on September 19.
The Rebels should have a significant talent advantage, but they need to play with the same energy they showed against Louisville.
If Chambliss continues playing efficiently and Ole Miss’ playmakers keep making explosive plays, the Rebels should have little trouble moving to 2-0.
A convincing victory would give Ole Miss momentum heading into its massive matchup with LSU next weekend.
