The Colorado Rockies’ 2026 season has officially come to an end — at least when it comes to the postseason.
The Rockies have become the first team in Major League Baseball eliminated from playoff contention, bringing another difficult season in Denver to a close.
Another Difficult Season in Colorado
Coming into the year, there was hope that Colorado could take a step forward after a historically difficult 2025 campaign.
Instead, the Rockies once again found themselves near the bottom of the National League standings.
Colorado entered Sunday at 55-87, and despite putting together some encouraging stretches, the team simply couldn’t keep pace with the rest of the National League.
The Rockies’ struggles throughout the season ultimately left them with no realistic path to October.
The Offense Shows Signs of Life
While the overall season has been disappointing, Colorado has had some bright spots.
The Rockies have continued to develop several young players, and the offense has shown flashes of what it could eventually become. Colorado recently scored 10 runs against the Cardinals in a comeback victory, highlighted by a six-run fifth inning.
Even after officially being eliminated, the Rockies will have plenty of opportunities to evaluate their young talent over the final weeks of the season.

Now the focus shifts toward 2027.
Being eliminated this early means Colorado’s front office has plenty of time to evaluate the roster, determine which young players belong in the long-term plans and figure out what needs to change during the offseason.
The Rockies have endured another frustrating season, but the final weeks could still be important for the future of the organization.
