Paige Spiranac apparently picked the worst possible week to be an influencer at the U.S. Open.
Spiranac attended Thursday’s quarterfinal between Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva, but her appearance came as tennis dealt with a growing backlash toward disruptive influencer behavior at the tournament.
That made Spiranac’s response particularly interesting.
She jokingly apologized to fans for not posting enough from the event, explaining that she had tried to be discreet with her photos.
The internet, naturally, had other ideas.
Influencers have become a major talking point at this year’s U.S. Open after complaints about people prioritizing content creation over actually watching tennis. One match was even paused amid concerns over disruptive influencer activity.
Spiranac, however, appeared to recognize the absurdity of the situation.
She has spent years building one of sports’ biggest personal brands, so being told to put the phone away at a major sporting event is almost comically on-brand.
Paige Spiranac went to the U.S. Open and somehow ended up in the middle of tennis’ influencer civil war.
Honestly, that might be the most Paige Spiranac thing imaginable.
