Minshew Mania is officially back, and Gardner Minshew reminded the NFL why he remains one of the league’s most entertaining quarterbacks. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback delivered a stunning performance Sunday, November 1, leading his team to a 33-30 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys after entering the game as a backup.
Arizona appeared to be in serious trouble before Minshew replaced struggling starter Jacoby Brissett late in the third quarter. The Cardinals trailed 17-3, and their offense desperately needed a spark. Minshew provided exactly that, helping Arizona complete one of the most dramatic comebacks of the NFL season.
Minshew Delivers When Arizona Needs Him Most
Minshew finished the game completing 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. Even more impressively, Arizona scored touchdowns on its next four possessions after he entered the game, completely changing the momentum.
The veteran quarterback showed excellent composure under pressure, distributing the football effectively and giving Arizona’s offense new life.
His biggest moment came with just six seconds remaining in regulation. Minshew connected with Michael Wilson for a 13 yard touchdown, tying the game and sending it into overtime. Although the Cardinals missed the extra point that could have won the game immediately, they recovered in overtime and secured the victory with a 42-yard field goal from Chad Ryland.
Could Minshew Become the Starter?
Minshew’s performance immediately raises questions about Arizona’s quarterback situation. Brissett struggled before being replaced, and the difference in the offense following the change was difficult to ignore.
Head coach Mike LaFleur has not committed to Minshew as the starter for Arizona’s next game, leaving the quarterback competition open for now. However, performances like Sunday’s make it difficult to ignore what the veteran brings to the offense.
Minshew has developed a reputation for delivering unexpected performances throughout his NFL career. His latest outing showed that he can still provide a spark when given an opportunity.
Minshew Mania is alive and well, and Cardinals fans suddenly have plenty of reasons to be excited. If Minshew continues playing this way, Arizona could have a difficult decision to make at quarterback.
