I’m going to say something that might upset some Georgia fans.
The Bulldogs need to wear alternate uniforms more often.
Georgia will make history Saturday against Western Kentucky by wearing white helmets, white jerseys and white pants for the first time ever as part of the “Unleashed White Out” at Sanford Stadium.
And my immediate reaction is simple:
Why doesn’t Georgia do stuff like this more often?
I understand the tradition. The red helmets, red jerseys and silver britches are one of the most recognizable looks in college football.
Nobody is saying get rid of them.
But Georgia has become such a massive brand under Kirby Smart that it can afford to have some fun.
Bring back the black jerseys more often. Wear the white helmets again. Give us a true blackout. Try different combinations for rivalry games, night games and huge recruiting weekends.
Georgia has only worn alternate uniforms four times under Smart before Saturday, and the Bulldogs won all four.
Meanwhile, programs like Oregon have turned uniforms into part of their identity and recruiting appeal.
Georgia doesn’t need 50 different combinations.
But one or two special uniforms every season?
Absolutely.
Saturday’s all-white look is something completely different for Georgia, and that’s exactly why people are talking about it.
Keep the traditional uniforms. Just stop being afraid to have some fun with them.
