Well, so much for seeing Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett together in Week 1.
Donald will not travel to Australia with the Rams and has been ruled out for Thursday night’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
That’s a major break for Brock Purdy and the 49ers.
Donald recently came out of a two-year retirement and had participated in only one full 11-on-11 practice since returning. The Rams apparently aren’t willing to rush the 35-year-old back just to get him on the field in Melbourne.
Los Angeles will still have reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett coming after Purdy, so this defensive front isn’t exactly harmless.
But the possibility of Garrett rushing from the outside while Donald destroys the pocket from the interior was arguably the scariest part of this matchup.
The 49ers won’t have to deal with that nightmare Thursday night.
Now we’ll have to wait a little longer for the most terrifying defensive-line duo in football to finally take the field together.
