The Miami Heat’s disappointing start to the 2026-27 NBA season continued Monday night, as they suffered a 113-109 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Kaseya Center. Despite a historic performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo, Miami couldn’t close out the game and remains winless through its first four contests.
Antetokounmpo recorded his first triple-double with the Heat, finishing with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. However, his outstanding individual performance wasn’t enough to prevent another frustrating defeat for a Miami team still searching for answers.
Antetokounmpo Does Everything He Can
Antetokounmpo continued to show why Miami brought him in, attacking the basket, controlling the boards and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. His triple double represented a major individual accomplishment, but the Heat once again struggled to turn their star’s production into a victory.
Davion Mitchell provided additional offensive support with 21 points, helping Miami remain competitive throughout the night.
However, Bam Adebayo struggled to find his rhythm, finishing with just eight points on three-of-10 shooting. Miami needs more consistent production from its supporting cast if it hopes to turn its season around.
The Heat have now lost their first four games, extending a difficult opening stretch that has raised questions about the team’s chemistry and ability to execute in crucial moments.
Mavericks Rally to Secure Victory
Miami appeared to be in a strong position early, building a 12 point advantage before Dallas began fighting its way back into the contest.
The Mavericks responded with a 17-4 run that helped them take a one-point lead into halftime. From there, the teams traded momentum throughout the third quarter as neither side managed to establish lasting control.
Dallas eventually created some separation late in the fourth quarter, with rookie Cooper Flagg delivering several important plays down the stretch.
Flagg finished with 29 points and 11 assists, while Kyrie Irving contributed 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. P.J. Washington added 20 points and nine rebounds to help Dallas secure the road victory.
Miami had an opportunity to take the lead late, but Andrew Wiggins missed a three-pointer with 31.1 seconds remaining. Flagg then converted a crucial layup to help seal the win.
Looking Ahead
The Heat have plenty of work to do after falling to 0-4. Antetokounmpo’s production is encouraging, but Miami must improve its defense, shooting and late-game execution.
With another loss on the books, the pressure is beginning to build. The Heat need to find answers quickly before their difficult start becomes an even bigger obstacle to their postseason ambitions.
