ATLANTA — Georgia has plenty of political problems to debate.

But there is one issue that deserves immediate attention from every football fan in the state.

The quality of NFL Sunday food.

Anybody can turn on a television. Anybody can sit on a couch. But preparing a proper football spread requires actual commitment.

The smoker needs attention. The ribs need seasoning. The pulled pork needs time. And the mac and cheese needs to be something people actually want to eat.

This is not a job for amateurs.

Rick Jackson has become an interesting figure in the Georgia political conversation, and the sports satire practically writes itself: Georgia needs a pitmaster in the governor’s mansion.

Meanwhile, Keisha Lance Bottoms is the perfect subject for a completely imaginary mac-and-cheese controversy.

The point is simple.

Georgia is a football state. Its food traditions deserve the same enthusiasm as its sports traditions.

A governor doesn’t need to know how to cook a brisket to run the state.

But it certainly wouldn’t hurt to understand why people take NFL Sunday seriously.

Georgia deserves championship-level football and championship-level barbecue.

No excuses.
