No. 3 Georgia opened the 2026 season with a dominant 63-3 victory over Tennessee State, controlling the game from the opening minutes. The Bulldogs finished with 660 total yards while holding Tennessee State to just 109.
Stockton Leads The Way
Quarterback Gunner Stockton looked extremely efficient in his first start of the season. Stockton completed 15 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns before giving way to backup Ryan Puglisi.
Georgia also found plenty of success on the ground. Running back Nate Frazier scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs repeatedly moved the ball with ease.
The performance gave Kirby Smart and his coaching staff plenty to be excited about heading into Week 2.
Western Kentucky Comes To Athens
Georgia’s next opponent will be Western Kentucky, which will travel to Sanford Stadium on Saturday.
The Bulldogs previously faced the Hilltoppers in 2006, winning that matchup 48-12. Now, 20 years later, the programs will meet again with Georgia looking to continue building toward another championship run.
Western Kentucky will provide a tougher challenge than Tennessee State, but Georgia enters the game with a significant talent advantage.
Another Step Toward SEC Play
The bigger picture is what makes this game important for Georgia.
The Bulldogs have national championship aspirations, and these early-season games give Smart an opportunity to continue developing his roster before the SEC schedule arrives.
Georgia will eventually face major conference challenges, including Oklahoma, making every early-season opportunity valuable.
After scoring 63 points in the opener, the Bulldogs will look to show that their offense can remain explosive while the defense continues to establish itself as one of the best units in the country.
