The Georgia Bulldogs delivered another statement performance Saturday, dominating Oklahoma in a matchup between two SEC teams.
No. 2 Georgia came into the game undefeated and looking to continue its incredible start to the season. The Bulldogs wasted little time showing why they entered the afternoon as one of the nation’s top teams, jumping all over the Sooners and controlling the game on both sides of the ball.
Georgia took a 28-0 lead into halftime, putting Oklahoma in a massive hole before the Sooners could find any offensive rhythm.
Georgia’s Defense Sets the Tone
The Bulldogs’ defense was once again the biggest difference-maker.
Georgia forced multiple turnovers in the first half, turning Oklahoma mistakes into points. Chris Cole had two fumble recoveries, including one that he returned 23 yards and helped set up another Georgia touchdown.
The Bulldogs also pressured Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer throughout the afternoon, making it extremely difficult for the Sooners to sustain drives.
After entering the game allowing just 7.7 points per game, Oklahoma’s offense suddenly found itself facing one of the toughest defenses it had seen all season.
Gunner Stockton Keeps Georgia Rolling
Quarterback Gunner Stockton continued to efficiently lead the Georgia offense.
Stockton was 10-for-12 for 103 yards and a touchdown during the first half, helping Georgia build its commanding lead.
The Bulldogs also continued to get production from their rushing attack. Chauncey Bowens scored twice in the first half, giving him five touchdowns over his last 17 carries dating back to Georgia’s previous game against Arkansas.
Georgia’s offense didn’t need to put up huge numbers because the defense repeatedly gave the Bulldogs excellent field position.
Another Statement From the Bulldogs
Georgia entered the game averaging 59.3 points per game and had already scored 63 against Tennessee State and 70 against Western Kentucky.
While the Sooners presented a much tougher challenge, the Bulldogs once again showed how dangerous they can be.
The victory keeps Georgia undefeated and adds another major SEC win to the team’s résumé. After dominating Arkansas on the road last week, Georgia has now followed that performance with another impressive showing against Oklahoma.
Georgia Keeps Rolling
The Bulldogs continue to look like one of the most complete teams in the country.
Georgia’s offense has been explosive, its defense has been forcing turnovers, and Kirby Smart’s team continues to find ways to control games from start to finish.
The Bulldogs now move forward with another SEC victory and plenty of momentum as the season continues.
Georgia came into Saturday looking to make a statement.
The Bulldogs did exactly that.
