Indianapolis Blows 13 Point Lead in Disappointing 26-20 Loss
The Indianapolis Colts suffered a frustrating defeat Sunday, falling 26-20 to the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium after surrendering a 13 point halftime lead. Indianapolis appeared to be in control early, but turnovers and special teams mistakes allowed Tennessee to rally for its first victory of the 2026 season.
The loss drops the Colts to 2-4, adding more pressure on head coach Shane Steichen and the Indianapolis coaching staff. Meanwhile, Tennessee improves to 1-5 and gives new head coach Robert Saleh his first win with the franchise.
Colts Start Strong Before Offense Stalls
Indianapolis controlled the first half behind quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Jonathan Taylor. Jones connected with tight end Mo Alie-Cox on a one yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to give the Colts the lead.
Kicker Spencer Shrader added field goals from 23 and 47 yards, allowing Indianapolis to take a 13-0 advantage into halftime.
However, the offense struggled to maintain that momentum after the break. Jones finished with 269 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on 22 of 42 passing. Tennessee’s defense also recorded six sacks, consistently putting pressure on the Indianapolis quarterback.
Taylor finished with 94 rushing yards on 21 carries and added a late touchdown that briefly tied the game. Despite his contributions, Indianapolis could not do enough to protect its lead.
Titans Take Advantage of Costly Mistakes
Tennessee gradually worked its way back into the game through defensive takeaways and special teams plays.
The Titans opened their scoring with a field goal in the third quarter before adding another after intercepting Jones. A 58-yard punt return by Chimere Dike helped set up Cam Ward’s eight-yard touchdown pass to Carnell Tate, tying the game at 13-13.
Tennessee then took the lead when a blocked punt was recovered by Oluwafemi Oladejo and returned 14 yards for a touchdown.
Taylor’s fourth quarter scoring run tied the game at 20-20, but the Colts could not stop the Titans on their next opportunity. Joey Slye connected on a 49-yard field goal with 2:03 remaining, then added a 44 yarder after Tennessee’s defense forced another stop.
Indianapolis Must Respond
The Colts had an opportunity to earn a much-needed divisional victory but instead watched a promising performance fall apart after halftime.
Indianapolis must clean up its turnovers, protect Jones and improve its special teams execution before its next matchup. With the AFC South race continuing, the Colts cannot afford many more performances like this one.
