The Kansas City Chiefs hit the road for the first time this season Sunday when they travel to South Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins in a Week 3 AFC matchup.
Kansas City enters the game 2-0 after surviving a 33-30 overtime thriller against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, continuing his strong start to the season. The Chiefs have also received a major boost from running back Kenneth Walker III, who rushed for 117 yards against Indianapolis while adding 61 receiving yards.
Miami, meanwhile, is searching for its first win of the season. The Dolphins opened the year with losses to the Raiders and 49ers, including a 35-13 defeat in San Francisco last week. Quarterback Malik Willis threw for 197 yards and a touchdown in that game but was sacked four times.
Chiefs Offense vs. Dolphins Defense
Kansas City’s offense has been one of the most productive units through two weeks. The Chiefs are averaging 271.5 passing yards and 186 rushing yards per game, giving Miami a difficult challenge on both fronts.
The Dolphins’ defense will need to find a way to generate pressure. Miami has yet to record a sack through its first two games, making the pass rush an important storyline heading into Sunday’s matchup.
Mahomes also has several weapons around him, including Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, who has been active in Kansas City’s offensive game plan early this season.
Dolphins Offense Looks for a Spark
Miami will look to De’Von Achane to provide production on the ground. Achane carried the ball 20 times for 74 yards against San Francisco, showing that the Dolphins are willing to give him a significant workload.
Willis will face a Kansas City defense that has shown flashes of dominance but also allowed Indianapolis to put up 30 points last week. The Chiefs will look to improve defensively while trying to slow down Miami’s speed-based offense.
Injury Report
Both teams have players dealing with injuries entering the weekend. Chiefs tackle Josh Simmons missed Thursday’s practice with a back injury, while Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed were limited. Patrick Mahomes and Rashee Rice were full participants Thursday.
Miami listed several players on its injury report, including Rob Beal Jr., Caleb Douglas and Ryan Miller, who missed Thursday’s practice.
With Kansas City trying to remain unbeaten and Miami looking to get its season moving in the right direction, Sunday’s matchup should provide an intriguing test for both AFC teams.
