Brock Purdy has wasted no time showing why the San Francisco 49ers believe he can lead their offense for years to come.
Through the first two games of the 2026 season, Purdy has helped San Francisco start 2-0, putting together two impressive performances against the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins. He has completed 45 of 56 passes for 492 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception, giving him a 125.6 passer rating.
Purdy opened the season with a strong performance in the 49ers’ 27-7 victory over the Rams in Australia. He threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Mike Evans, Demarcus Robinson and Deebo Samuel as San Francisco controlled the game from the second quarter onward.
But Purdy took his game to another level in Week 2.
Against Miami, the 49ers quarterback completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another score. His 149.1 passer rating highlighted just how efficient he was throughout the afternoon.
San Francisco scored touchdowns on each of its first five drives, marking the first time the franchise had accomplished that since 1991. Purdy’s accuracy and decision-making were major reasons the offense was able to stay in rhythm throughout the 35-13 win.
The biggest difference in Purdy’s game has been his efficiency. He isn’t simply putting up big numbers he’s making accurate throws, avoiding unnecessary mistakes and consistently keeping the offense moving.
With weapons such as Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Mike Evans around him, Purdy has plenty of talent to work with. But the quarterback has looked completely in control of Kyle Shanahan’s offense to begin the year.
There is still a long way to go in the 2026 season, but Purdy has given 49ers fans plenty of reasons to be excited.
