The Milwaukee Brewers moved within one victory of their first World Series championship in franchise history Monday night, dominating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee delivered an offensive explosion in the fifth inning and received a brilliant performance from starting pitcher Robert Gasser to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Brewers have now won eight consecutive postseason games and continued their remarkable October run. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, faces elimination after suffering a lopsided defeat in front of its home crowd.

Brewers Break Game Open With Historic Fifth Inning

Milwaukee’s offense came alive in the middle innings after the teams played through two scoreless frames. The Brewers scored twice in the third inning on RBI singles from Christian Yelich and William Contreras, giving Gasser an early cushion.

The decisive moment arrived in the fifth. Milwaukee sent eight runs across the plate, turning a competitive game into a blowout and setting a World Series record by scoring eight runs with two outs in a single inning.

Brice Turang delivered a crucial two run single, while Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick and David Hamilton also contributed important hits. Jackson Chourio capped the massive inning with another run scoring double as Milwaukee’s lineup repeatedly found gaps in the Rays’ defense.

Chourio finished 4 for 5 with a double, helping lead an offense that collected 16 hits. Contreras added three hits, while the Brewers took advantage of Tampa Bay’s pitching struggles to build an insurmountable advantage.

The inning was especially frustrating for the Rays because a replay challenge overturned a potential force-out at second base, allowing Milwaukee to keep the rally alive.

Gasser Dominates as Rays Struggle

While Milwaukee’s offense stole the spotlight, Gasser delivered one of the most impressive pitching performances of the postseason. The left-hander allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings, keeping Tampa Bay from generating any meaningful momentum.

Gasser retired the first 18 batters he faced, becoming the first World Series starting pitcher since 2001 to face the minimum through six innings. His command and efficiency gave the Brewers everything they needed while their offense continued adding runs.

Tampa Bay finally scored in the ninth inning when Yandy Díaz doubled home a run, avoiding a shutout. However, the late rally did little to change the outcome.

Brewers One Win Away

Milwaukee now leads the series 3-0 and can secure its first World Series title with another victory. The Brewers have received contributions from their lineup and pitching staff throughout the postseason, putting themselves in an excellent position to finish the job.

For Tampa Bay, the challenge is enormous. The Rays must win four consecutive games to capture the championship, a comeback that has been achieved only once in major league postseason history.

Game 4 will give Milwaukee another opportunity to complete its historic championship run.
