Army opened the 2026 season by doing exactly what everyone expects from the Black Knights — running the football, controlling the game and overwhelming its opponent.

Army dominated Bryant 59-3 on Saturday at Michie Stadium, rushing for an incredible 569 yards as 16 different Black Knights recorded a carry. The performance showcased just how dangerous Army’s rushing attack can be this season.

Army’s Ground Game Was Unstoppable

From the opening minutes, Bryant had no answer for Army’s option attack.

The Black Knights repeatedly created running lanes and turned them into explosive plays, finishing with 648 total yards while holding Bryant to just 165.

Army’s rushing total was the biggest story of the afternoon, with the Black Knights averaging nearly 8 yards per carry while constantly keeping Bryant’s defense on its heels.

Zach Mundell Breaks Out

Senior slot back Zach Mundell delivered one of the biggest performances of the game.

Mundell rushed for 105 yards on only four carries, including a spectacular 66-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The touchdown was the first of his Army career and helped push the Black Knights’ lead to 38-3.

Cale Hellums also made a major impact. The quarterback rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, while adding 59 passing yards.

Army’s Depth Makes the Offense Dangerous

Perhaps the most impressive part of Army’s rushing performance was how many players contributed.

Sixteen different Black Knights carried the football, showing that Army doesn’t need one player to carry the offense. The constant rotation kept fresh legs on the field and allowed Army to continue attacking Bryant throughout the afternoon.

Army also scored 21 points in the third quarter, turning the game into a complete blowout.

A Statement to Start 2026

Army couldn’t have asked for a better way to open the season.

A 59-3 victory, 569 rushing yards and 648 total yards sends an early message about what the Black Knights want to be in 2026: physical, disciplined and extremely difficult to stop on the ground.

Army will now turn its attention toward USF, which visits Michie Stadium next Saturday.

If this rushing attack is any indication, Army could be a nightmare for defenses all season long.
