Love her or hate her, Angel Reese gets people talking.
Few players in basketball generate the reaction Reese does. Every quote, celebration, stat line and social media post seems to turn into a debate. At this point, the attention surrounding her extends far beyond what happens during a WNBA game.
And that’s exactly why Reese has become such a massive name.
She entered the league with an enormous following after winning a national championship at LSU, and she quickly showed that her popularity wasn’t going away once she reached the pros. Her rebounding ability immediately translated, while her personality helped make her one of the WNBA’s most recognizable players.
Of course, the criticism hasn’t disappeared either.
Reese’s offensive game has been heavily scrutinized, and every poor shooting performance seemingly becomes ammunition for another round of criticism online. But she’s also still a young player with plenty of room to develop.
That’s what sometimes gets lost in all the noise.
You don’t have to believe Reese is already one of the best players in the WNBA to recognize her impact. People watch her. People argue about her. People show up to see her.
In professional sports, that matters.
Reese still has plenty to prove on the court, especially as she continues developing offensively. But when it comes to generating attention and emotion around women’s basketball, there aren’t many athletes doing it at her level.
