The 2026 WNBA Finals have delivered plenty of drama, and Angel Reese is at the center of one of the biggest storylines of the series. With the Atlanta Dream facing elimination against the Golden State Valkyries, Reese must help lead a comeback if Atlanta hopes to keep its championship dreams alive.

Golden State holds a 3-2 series lead after earning a 64-55 victory in Game 5. The Valkyries are now one win away from capturing a championship in only their second season as a franchise, while Atlanta faces enormous pressure heading into the next game.

For Reese, the stakes could not be higher.

Angel Reese Must Lead Atlanta’s Comeback

Reese has built her reputation around relentless rebounding, physical defense and her ability to compete in high-pressure moments. Now, those qualities will be essential as the Dream attempt to avoid elimination.

Although Reese was held to seven points in Game 5, she still collected 15 rebounds and recorded five assists. Her ability to control the glass gave Atlanta additional opportunities, but the Dream struggled to turn those chances into enough points.

Atlanta needs Reese to make an impact on both ends of the floor in Game 6. She will have to battle for rebounds, create second-chance opportunities and help her teammates find better looks against Golden State’s aggressive defense.

If Reese can deliver a bigger offensive performance while maintaining her presence around the basket, the Dream could have a chance to force a decisive Game 7.

Valkyries Are One Win From History

Golden State has relied on its defense to take control of the series. Kiah Stokes recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in Game 5, while Veronica Burton also contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

The Valkyries forced Atlanta into 17 turnovers and made it difficult for the Dream to find any offensive rhythm. That defensive pressure has become a major problem for Reese and her teammates.

Golden State knows it is just one victory away from a historic championship. The franchise has already exceeded expectations by reaching the Finals, but finishing the job would make its second season unforgettable.

Can Angel Reese Keep Atlanta’s Season Alive?

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, in Atlanta. The Dream will have the home crowd behind them, but they must find answers quickly.

Reese will be one of the most important players to watch. Her rebounding, energy and leadership could determine whether Atlanta survives or Golden State celebrates a championship.

The Valkyries have the momentum, but Reese and the Dream still have an opportunity to change the story. With their season on the line, Atlanta needs its star to rise to the occasion.
