The Chicago Bears have made one of the biggest moves of the NFL season, acquiring star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans in a blockbuster trade on Thursday.
Chicago is sending its 2027 and 2028 first round picks, along with a 2027 fourth round selection, to Tennessee in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth round pick. The deal gives the Bears one of the NFL’s premier interior defensive linemen as they look to strengthen their Super Bowl chances.
Bears Go All In on Super Bowl Contention
The Bears are making it clear that they believe their current roster is capable of competing for a championship. At 5-2 entering the trade, Chicago has put itself in a strong position and is looking to build on its recent success.
Simmons immediately addresses a major need along the defensive line. The four-time Pro Bowl selection earned first team All Pro honors in 2025 after recording a career-high 11 sacks and 17 tackles for loss.
He has continued producing this season, recording four sacks through seven games. His ability to pressure quarterbacks from the interior should give Chicago’s defense another dangerous weapon against opposing offenses.
With quarterback Caleb Williams leading the offense, the Bears are investing heavily in their championship window. Giving up two first-round picks is a significant price, but the organization clearly believes Simmons can help push the team closer to a Super Bowl appearance.
Titans Continue Their Rebuild
For Tennessee, the trade represents a major shift in direction. The Titans are 1-6 and struggling to find consistency, making the decision to exchange a franchise defensive star for valuable draft capital understandable.
Simmons had been one of the team’s most important players since being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He also served as a team captain five times and became a leader both on and off the field.
The two first round picks give Tennessee additional flexibility to rebuild its roster and potentially acquire young talent at several positions.
A Major Gamble for Chicago
Ultimately, the trade is a significant gamble for both organizations, but the Bears are prioritizing immediate success.
Chicago is sacrificing valuable draft capital to acquire a proven defensive difference-maker who can contribute immediately. If Simmons helps the Bears make a deep playoff run, the price could prove worthwhile.
For Tennessee, the focus shifts toward the future. The Titans now have additional resources to reshape their roster, while Chicago hopes its latest acquisition can help turn championship aspirations into reality.
