The Boston Celtics delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the young NBA season Tuesday night, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 125-124 in overtime. Jayson Tatum played the role of hero, knocking down a game-winning jumper as time expired to give Boston an unforgettable victory at TD Garden.

Tatum finished with a game high 40 points, eight assists and five rebounds, carrying the Celtics through a back and forth battle that came down to the final possession. Paul George also delivered a strong performance, contributing 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as Boston improved its record.

Tatum Takes Over When It Matters Most

Brooklyn gave Boston plenty of problems throughout the evening. The Nets established an early advantage and entered halftime with a 61-56 lead, forcing the Celtics to work hard to stay within striking distance.

Boston responded after the break, finding its rhythm offensively and knocking down eight three-pointers in the third quarter. Tatum led the charge as the Celtics took an 86-82 advantage into the final period.

Neither team could pull away in the fourth quarter. Brooklyn continued attacking, while Boston relied on Tatum’s scoring and timely contributions from its supporting cast.

With the Nets trailing late in regulation, rookie Mikel Brown Jr. delivered a clutch three-pointer with one second remaining to tie the game and force overtime.

The extra period brought even more drama. Brooklyn briefly took a 124-123 lead, leaving Boston with one final opportunity to steal the victory.

Tatum delivered. With just 2.3 seconds remaining, he received the ball and knocked down a mid-range jumper as the buzzer sounded, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Celtics Find a Way to Win

The victory showcased Boston’s resilience and Tatum’s ability to deliver under pressure. His 40-point performance was especially impressive considering the Celtics struggled with their shooting early in the game.

For Brooklyn, Michael Porter Jr. finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Julius Randle added 24 points and nine rebounds. Despite their strong performances, the Nets could not make the final defensive stop.

Boston now has another victory to build on as it continues its early-season campaign. If Tatum maintains this level of play, the Celtics could remain a dangerous opponent throughout the season.
