Charlotte Locks In Its Franchise Cornerstone
The Charlotte Hornets are making a major commitment to their future, agreeing to a five-year, $209 million contract extension with Brandon Miller. The deal, announced Monday, October 19, keeps one of the NBA’s rising young scorers in Charlotte as the franchise looks to build a competitive team for the coming seasons.
Miller, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Alabama, has quickly developed into one of the Hornets’ most important players. With the organization making significant changes to its roster, securing Miller represents a clear statement about who Charlotte wants to build around moving forward.
Miller Is Coming Off a Career Year
The extension comes after Miller delivered the best season of his young NBA career in 2025-26. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game across 65 appearances, establishing himself as a reliable scoring option.
Miller also made significant contributions from beyond the three-point line, connecting on 38.3% of his attempts from deep. His ability to score from multiple areas of the floor gives Charlotte an offensive weapon who can create his own shot and stretch opposing defenses.
Through his first three NBA seasons, Miller has averaged 19 points, 4.6 rebounds and three assists per game. He also earned a place on the NBA All-Rookie First Team following his debut season, demonstrating his potential early in his professional career.
Although injuries have interrupted portions of his time in Charlotte, the Hornets clearly believe his best basketball is still ahead of him.
A New Era for the Hornets
Charlotte’s decision to extend Miller becomes even more important following the offseason trade that sent LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Ball no longer on the roster, Miller is expected to take on an even larger role in the team’s offense.
The Hornets are betting that his scoring ability, shooting and continued development can help lead the franchise toward greater success. The extension also gives the organization a young player to build around while it continues shaping the roster.
Expectations Are Rising
A contract worth $209 million comes with significant expectations. Miller must continue improving as a scorer, playmaker and defender while helping Charlotte become more competitive in the Eastern Conference.
For now, the Hornets have secured one of their most valuable young talents for the long term. The extension rewards Miller for his progress while placing the next stage of Charlotte’s rebuild on his shoulders.
If he continues developing into an even more complete player, this agreement could become a major step toward the Hornets’ return to contention.
