Steelers Quarterback Makes History With Game Winning Touchdown Against Tampa Bay

Aaron Rodgers continues to add to his legendary NFL career, reaching another major milestone during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ thrilling 26-19 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The 42 year old quarterback threw two touchdown passes to bring his regular-season career total to 539, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning for third place on the NFL’s all-time passing touchdown list. Rodgers delivered the biggest throw of the afternoon in overtime, connecting with rookie Germie Bernard for the game-winning score.

The accomplishment adds another chapter to the career of one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Rodgers has spent years establishing himself as an elite passer, and his latest milestone puts him alongside one of the most accomplished players the position has ever seen.

Rodgers Leads Pittsburgh’s Comeback

The milestone came during a game that required Rodgers and the Steelers to overcome significant adversity. Pittsburgh struggled offensively for much of the afternoon and entered the fourth quarter trailing Tampa Bay by 13 points.

Rodgers helped spark the comeback with a touchdown pass to tight end Darnell Washington. Pittsburgh continued to fight its way back into the game before eventually forcing overtime.

Rodgers finished the contest completing 33 of 49 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His second touchdown pass, delivered to Bernard in overtime, secured the victory and tied Manning’s regular-season record.

The win improved Pittsburgh’s record to 4-2 and gave the Steelers another important victory as they continue their push through the 2026 season.

Rodgers Continues to Build a Hall of Fame Legacy

Rodgers has already built a résumé that places him among the NFL’s all-time greats. The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers and spent 18 seasons with the franchise before later playing for the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Manning finished his career with 539 regular season touchdown passes, while Rodgers has now reached that same mark. Only Tom Brady, with 649, and Drew Brees, with 571, have thrown more regular-season touchdown passes.

Rodgers has also demonstrated that he can still deliver in crucial moments late in his career. His overtime touchdown against Tampa Bay showed that he remains capable of leading a team through pressure-packed situations.

One More Record Within Reach

Rodgers will have an opportunity to move past Manning with his next touchdown pass, taking sole possession of third place on the regular season list.

With his career approaching its final chapter, every milestone carries added significance. Rodgers has already secured his place among football’s greatest quarterbacks, but his latest achievement provides another reminder of his remarkable longevity and production.

The Steelers will now turn their attention to their upcoming matchup against the New Orleans Saints in Paris. If Rodgers throws another touchdown, he will once again make NFL history.
