Houston Takes a Major Chance on Former Ohio State Star

The Houston Texans have made one of the biggest moves of the NFL season, acquiring wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals. The trade gives Houston another talented weapon and could become a major turning point for an offense that needs more consistency.

Harrison, the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, arrives in Houston looking to get his career back on track. The biggest reason for optimism is his connection with quarterback C.J. Stroud. The two played together at Ohio State, where they developed familiarity that could help them reconnect quickly at the professional level.

If Harrison can rediscover the form that made him one of college football’s most exciting prospects, the Texans could have one of the NFL’s most dangerous receiving duos.

Harrison Gives Stroud Another Big Time Target

One of the biggest benefits of the move is the pressure it could take off Houston’s other receivers, especially Nico Collins.

Collins has established himself as a key part of the Texans’ passing attack, but adding Harrison gives Stroud another receiver capable of winning one-on-one matchups. At 6 foot 3, Harrison has the size to compete for contested catches and become a major red zone threat.

His route-running ability and experience playing with Stroud could also help Houston create more explosive plays. Defenses will have to think carefully about how they cover both Harrison and Collins, potentially creating opportunities for other players across the offense.

Harrison has struggled to produce consistently in Arizona, recording just five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown through the first four games of the 2026 season. Houston is betting that a fresh start and a familiar quarterback can help unlock his potential.

A Fresh Start for Harrison

The Texans are also giving Harrison an opportunity to rebuild his confidence in a new offensive system.

Houston began the season 0-4 before earning its first victory with a 26-3 win over Tennessee. The team still has ground to make up in the AFC South, making this addition especially important as it tries to turn its season around.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans and the coaching staff will need to find ways to get Harrison involved early without forcing the ball his way.

Could Houston Have a Dangerous Offense?

The trade carries risk, but the potential reward is enormous. Harrison has the talent to become a major difference-maker, and reuniting with Stroud gives him an excellent opportunity to improve.

If Harrison reaches his potential in Houston, the Texans could have the receiving talent to compete with the AFC’s best offenses. This move gives Stroud another weapon and gives Harrison a chance to prove he can become the star many expected him to be.
