The Minnesota Vikings improved to 2-0 on Sunday, defeating the Chicago Bears 9-3 in a defensive battle at Soldier Field.
After both teams scored plenty of points in Week 1, the NFC North matchup turned into a completely different game. Neither offense found the end zone, and Minnesota relied on three field goals from Will Reichard to secure the victory.
The Vikings opened the scoring on a 35-yard field goal from Reichard, but Chicago quickly answered with a 50-yard kick from Cairo Santos. Reichard then connected from 49 yards in the second quarter to give Minnesota a 6-3 halftime lead.
From there, the Vikings’ defense continued to keep Chicago from finding any rhythm.
The Bears repeatedly moved the ball into Minnesota territory but couldn’t finish drives. Chicago also turned the ball over twice, including a D’Andre Swift fumble at the Vikings’ 1-yard line that ended a promising scoring opportunity. Minnesota’s Isaiah Rodgers later blocked a 23-yard field-goal attempt, keeping the Bears from tying the game.
The Vikings finally created some breathing room late when Reichard drilled his third field goal of the afternoon, a 39-yarder with just over a minute remaining.
Minnesota’s defense then closed the door.
After Caleb Williams left the game with a right hamstring injury in the fourth quarter, Tyson Bagent took over and gave the Bears one final chance. Bagent moved Chicago deep into Vikings territory, but Dallas Turner sacked him on the final play of the game to seal the victory.
Carson Wentz completed 11 of 20 passes for 143 yards in his 100th career start, while Aaron Jones Sr. provided the biggest offensive contribution with 105 rushing yards. Justin Jefferson added three catches for 55 yards.
The win gives Minnesota a 2-0 start despite the offense failing to score a touchdown. For the Vikings, the defense and special teams came through when they needed them most.
Chicago falls to 1-1, while Minnesota heads into Week 3 with plenty of confidence after winning two very different games to open the season.
